That's Ludwigsburg's castle in the background. At the time these photos were taken, the large-scale renovations were still going on.

Pumpkin Pyramids

What do pumpkins and pyramids have to do with one another? I have no idea, but it's a recurring theme at this festival. These photos are from the first year. Last year, they had an Egyptian theme with the pumpkin festival. Go figure.

Pumpkin Foundtain

Another creative use of pumpkins. Strange, creative... but not that clever. They rotted out pretty quickly in all that water, but I have to admit, those first few days were pretty brilliant with all that orange basking in the sunlight. The orange dome in the background is one of those huge, inflated jumping things for children. High winds the second year forced them to take it down early and they didn't even try to put it up the third year. Too bad, because my son was finally old enough to appreciate it.

This was just one of several figures created by an artist from Colombia.
